The Israeli army struck a Hamas military post in the southern Gaza Strip in retaliation for rocket fire and incendiary balloons that were fired at Israel earlier in the day.

Earlier Sunday, the Israeli military said that a rocket was fired from the Gaza Srip, adding that the rocket fire caused an alarm to sound in an open area near Israel's border with the coastal enclave.

On Saturday, the Israeli army struck several Hamas targets in the southern Strip. The Israel Defense Forces said that among the targets was a weapons manufacturing site and a military compound. The strike, the army said, was carried out in retaliation for incendiary balloons that had been launched at Israeli territory.

On Thursday, the army struck several Hamas targets in response to the firing of airborne firebombs. The firebombs had landed in an open area within the southern community Sdot Negev Regional Council.

Earlier last week, the Israeli army shot to death three Palestinians who had crossed the border fence from the Strip into Israeli territory. The three breached the fence in an area in the center of Gaza, close to Kibbutz Kisufim. The military said that they opened fire at troops and hurled an explosive device or a stun grenade.
