Kahol Lavan leader Benny Gantz criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, accusing the premier of launching uninhibited attacks against law enforcement institutions that raise “grave” concerns he intends to lead Israel into a third election campaign within a year.

"What has been happening in the past few days must be stopped," Gantz said. "It's unacceptable that while we are talking about [forming] a government to rehabilitate diplomacy, to back the Israel Defense Forces, to empower the law enforcement institutions and safeguard a free press, Netanyahu, who is in charge of all these systems, is spreading blatant messages against them."

Speaking at a Kahol Lavan convention in Tel Aviv, Gantz said that "the loss of inhibitions raises a grave concern that Netanyahu is headed for [a third] election."

The Kahol lavan leader added that "it cannot be that he is sending his men to attack the judicial system, the police and the media,” and said Justice Minister Amir Ohana's remarks earlier this week have “Crossed the line. It cannot continue like this, and we'll ensure it won't."

On Tuesday, Justice Minister and Netanyahu loyalist Amir Ohana referred to the criminal cases pending against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and said there was a “prosecutor’s office within the State Prosecutor’s Office” that destroys the careers of politicians and other public figures.

Ohana appealed to the attorney general to probe leaks from the police of material from their investigations of Netanyahu. “There wasn’t one leak, there were dozens and possibly hundreds to media outlets over a period of some three years,” the justice minister said. “How can we accept a situation in which senior officials in the judicial establishment, who are obligated to uphold standards, who preach at the gate against corruption, see and hear about institutional corruption on such a scale and say, there’s nothing to be done."
