23-year-old Palestinian Said Killed in Clashes With Israeli Army in West Bank

A 23-year-old Palestinian man was killed Tuesday overnight during clashes in the West Bank between Israeli army troops and Palestinians, according to Palestinian reports.

The man, who has been identified as Muhammad Basharat, was wounded in the West Bank village of Tamun, in the Tubas area.

Eyewitnesses said that the Israeli army entered the village around 1:00 A.M. to conduct arrests. A conflict then ensued between the soldiers and dozens of Palestinian. The same reports mentioned that three other Palestinians were wounded during the clashes. Their condition remains unclear.

Basharat was evacuated to a hospital in Jenin, where he was pronounced dead, the reports said.

The Israeli army's Spokesperson's Unit said in a statement that during an operation in Tamun, violent riots erupted in which dozens of Palestinians hurled rocks and threw flares at Israeli soldiers.

The statement said the army responded by opening fire and using riot dispersal means to contain the incident.

On Monday, another Palestinian was killed in the Palestinian city of Hebron after stabbing a soldier not far from the the Cave of Patriarchs, a place of worship in the city for Muslims and Jews alike.

One Palestinian was killed and five were shot and wounded by live Israeli fire Tuesday evening in clashes along the border fence in the central Gaza Strip, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

The Gaza Health Ministry identified the fatality as a 17-year-old male, Monetsir Mohammed Elbaz.
