A Palestinian man was shot dead at close-range by Israeli soldiers Wednesday during clashes in the West Bank, Israeli army's Civil Administration said.

An initial report by anti-occupation group B'Tselem, Izz ad-Din a-Tamimi, 21, was severely wounded during a confrontation between Israeli soldiers and Palestinians in the village of Nabi Saleh in the central West Bank.

The Civil Administration confirmed the report and informed the Palestinian Health Ministry of his death.

Witnesses in the village said a-Tamimi was severely wounded and was evacuated by Israel Defense Forces. A resident of Nebi Saleh told Haaretz a-Tamimi was wanted by Israeli security forces, and that soldiers entered the village Wednesday to arrest him. According to other residents in the village, he was suspected of stone throwing, and several of his relatives were arrested in the past.

Jonathan Pollack, a left-wing activist who is close with a-Tamimi's family and was present at the hospital where he died, told Haaretz he was shot in the back of the neck.

According to the IDF, a-Tamimi hit a soldier in the head during a protest that had at least 10 stone-throwers. The soldier was not significantly hurt, and the IDF said it is "investigating the matter."

Palestinian media also reported of clashes taking place in Beit Rima, a village northwest of Ramallah, and in the Am'ari Refugee Camp. One Palestinian was reportedly wounded in the leg by rubber-tipped bullets.
