A soldier told police that four masked men got out of a car at the Beit Kama Junction, threatened him with a gun, snatched his weapon and fled.
Police have set up roadblocks and are carrying out searches in the area, also examining whether an overturned car spotted by a police helicopter is related to the incident.
Last month, a number of video clips were published on social media seeming to show masked men driving in southern Israel while shooting in the air. Police were investigating both of the clips to see if they were related.
