Palestinian police officers arrested her father, mother and sister, who had come to Jenin from the northern Israeli village of Uzeir, where they live. Israeli officials are in contact with their Palestinian counterparts. Once the suspects' nationality is confirmed, Israeli security officials said, the Palestinians will likely transfer the case and the suspects to the Israeli police.
A witness who lives in the university's dormitory said she heard screams outside of the building while a man chased after the woman. He caught her and chaos erupted as a woman who was likely her mother and her friend screamed for help. After a few seconds, the victim was lying on the road, her face covered in blood.
Yasser Omar, head of the local council that administers Uzeir, told Haaretz that he is in contact with the woman's family, and that some of her relatives are at the Al-Razi Hospital in Jenin. "She is in very bad condition, the doctors said she has sustained a deep wound in her lung and she's going in to surgery," he said.
Omar further added that the crime's motive remains unclear. "This has never happened in our villages. We're in shock, just praying for her to get better," he added.
