A Palestinian man who was shot during violent clashes with Israeli forces along the Gaza border Friday has succumbed to his wounds, the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry said on Saturday.

According to the ministry, Jamal Mohammed Jamal Musleh, 20, from Maghazi refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, was shot in the chest with live ammunition.

Approximately 2,000 Palestinians took part in Friday's protests along the Gaza border, with another 2,000 demonstrating in the West Bank. Dozens of Palestinians were wounded in clashes at nine points along the border fence, with four reported to be in critical condition. The Israeli army said that it had fired toward four Palestinians who tried to cross the border into Israel.

It marked the fourth consecutive week of clashes following U.S. President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital city.

Earlier on Friday, three rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip toward southern Israel. Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted two of the rockets, while the third hit a building in the regional council of Shaar Hanegev.

In response, the Israeli army struck two Hamas positions in the northern Gaza Strip by tank and aircraft.
