The Shin Bet security service disclosed on Thursday that it arrested a Hamas operative in September while he was crossing from the Gaza Strip into Israel.

The member of Hamas' military wing, Ahmed Majdi Mohammed Abeid, was born in 1994 and is a resident of Gaza's Shujaiyeh neighborhood. The police and Shin Bet investigators learned that he was recruited to Hamas in 2013. He then underwent military training and was taught how to operate anti-tank weaponry, and learned about engineering tactics and sharpshooting. He also participated in digging tunnels close to his home as well as serving in the Hamas units responsible for guarding the border with Israel.

The Shin Bet said in a statement that Abeid's interrogation yielded a lot of information about Hamas' tunnel network in Gaza, both the attack tunnels leading to Israel and the ones designed to help the organization in combatting the Israel Defense Forces within the Strip.

The security service added that the operative's answers revealed yet again the terrorist nature of activities pursued by Hamas, such as its attack tunnels, which are designed to promote operations inside Israel.

Abeid appeared before the Be'er Sheva District Court on October 23 and charged with serious security violations.
