The website of the American retailer Sears, which for decades has been best known as a seller of appliances and tools, has waded, apparently unwittingly, into the Israel-Palestinian conflict by offering several apparel items emblazoned with the logo "Free Palestine."

The Sears website provides a platform for sales from other suppliers and in this case of the "Free Palestine" apparel, it is being offered for sale by two sellers, the German-based retailer Spreadshirt and a company called City Shirts.
The Sears site also offers small Israeli flags and Israeli flag magnets for sale, in addition to a range of panoramic photographs of Jerusalem.
Some of the "Free Palestine" shirts offered via Sears include a call to "End Israel Occupation." One City Shirts T-shirt available for $17.95, is sold under the product title "City Shirts Free Palestine End of Occupation Adult Tank Top."
Similar wares, it should be noted, are for sale from a number of sources on Amazon, which also provides a platform for sellers plying pro-Israeli T-shirts. The Sears website's pro-Palestinian merchandise was first brought to the attention of the Jerusalem Post by a reader.
Reuters noted that Sears, which was once the largest retailer in the United States, "has been struggling to turn around its business for years amid intensifying competition from Walmart Stores and Amazon.com."
