Man Lightly Hurt in Stabbing in Jerusalem's Old City
Police say motive was likely criminal
A man was lightly hurt in a stabbing near the Lions' Gate in Jerusalem's Old City on Saturday, paramedics said.
The Magen David Adom emergency response service said the man, around the age of 30, suffered knife wounds to his upper body but was fully conscious as he received treatment before being taken to hospital.
According to the police, the motive was likely criminal.
Last Saturday, an Israeli police officer was moderately wounded in a stabbing attack in the same location. The assailant, a Jordanian who had entered Israel as a tourist, was shot and killed.
The incident provoked a war of words between Jordan and Israel. A Jordanian minister issued a statement calling the man's death a "crime" and saying that as Israel is the occupying force in Jerusalem, it is responsible for it. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bureau called the Jordanian minister's statement "outrageous," saying it amounted to an expression of support for a terrorist attack.
