A Jordanian - and not Israeli - agent is the source of the intelligence information leaked by U.S. President Donald Trump to the Russians last week, Al Jazeera reported early Thursday.

The report, which cites a number of Jordanian sources, contradicts claims that it was an Israeli spy within ISIS who had originally gained the information in question.

According to Al Jazeera, Israeli intelligence does not usually employ human assets on the ground in Syria, while Jordan does.

"When it comes to ISIL, unlike Jordan, Israel relies on its electronic surveillance collection and its intelligence sharing-arrangement with its Arab partners," one of the sources was quoted as saying.

Israel doesn't have any spies within the Islamic State group, another source was quoted as saying, which they said is contingent on "cooperation and coordination with Arab spy services partners."

The information in question had to do with an attempted airline attack being planned by ISIS.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that "multiple" U.S. sources said the information came from an Israeli source they described as "the most valuable source of information" on ISIS plots.

Hours after the Washington Post first reported that Trump exposed highly classified information provided by a close ally to senior Russian officials, the White House announced that Trump’s first agenda item for Tuesday was a phone call with Jordanian King Abdullah II.

Trump then also called Netanyahu, but the two did not talk about the leak, but only Trump's visit to Israel.
