High schools and some middle schools are set to shut down this morning to protest increased violence against teachers, the Secondary School Teacher's Association announced Tuesday.

The association's chairman Ran Erez said that his proposal for a law which ensures that attacks against teachers are treated as seriously as those against other public servants was rejected by the Education Ministry's legal adviser with no explanation.

“Unfortunately, my attempts to formulate solutions and enlist you in the fight against this worrisome phenomenon have failed," wrote Erez to Education Minister Naftali Bennett.

Erez wrote that Bennett was humiliating tens of thousands of teachers and said he was “infuriated” by Bennett’s lack of action.

He added that Bennett had canceled a meeting with him on Monday after he had arrived at the minister's office.

Bennett’s office denied that the meeting with Erez had been canceled.

The teachers' strike will take place for two hours, from 8 A.M. and 10 A.M.
