Israel issued a warning to travelers in the Sinai Peninsula Tuesday, after a situation assessment by the Counter-Terrorism Bureau identified an imminent danger of terror attacks on tourist sites in the region.

The threat is on-going, but the warning stressed January 25 in particular, which marks six years since the 2011 revolution in Egypt, a date that has witnessed terror attacks in previous years.

The Counter-Terrorism Bureau's advice to Israelis in Sinai is to return to Israel immediately. Families were asked to contact travelers in the Sinai and inform them of the warning.

Additionally, the bureau said that anyone planning to travel to Sinai should refrain from doing so.

The threat level is the highest possible: Concrete threat (level 1).
