Mike Huckabee on Friday denied reports that President-elect Donald Trump picked him to serve as the U.S. ambassador to Israel.

"Media buzz that I was named Amb to Israel is NOT true," Huckabee said in a tweet. "Was never discussed with PE Trump; slot probably not picked until State Dept in place."

Speaking on Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor," the former Arkansas governor said Trump offered him a position in his cabinet, but it wasn't "the right fit."

He would not give details on the position in question, but denied it was the ambassadorship to Israel.

“That was not something that was even discussed,” he reiterated.

The Daily Mail on Friday cited a presidential transition official as saying that Huckabee was Trump's pick for envoy and that he would oversee the transfer of the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

"That's going to happen," the official was quoted as saying. "Governor Huckabee is going to see it through."

Huckabee, a supporter of settlement expansion and the Israeli annexation of the West Bank, claimed in the past that Palestinians don't exist.
