Deputy Minister for Regional Cooperation Ayoub Kara (Likud) on Monday revealed a security matter in which Israel is involved. A gag order was immediately issued preventing publication of any details, but according to reports it involves risk to human life.

In a recorded message, Kara said, “I decided to publicize the story because the responsibility is on my conscience, which is why I’m worried about this and revealed the story. We are starting to fight on all fronts. It’s a year-and-a-half already I will not let this happen and I’m exercising all available connections.”

Two weeks ago Kara caused a diplomatic row that almost led to a crisis between Israel and Italy, when during a visit to the Vatican he said that the earthquake last month near Rome occurred because Italy had supported an anti-Israel resolution passed by UNESCO.

At the conclusion of that visit, Kara put out a statement: “I am certain that the quake occurred due to the UNESCO decision that the pope very much disliked, and even publicly expressed that the Holy Land belongs to the Jewish people.” Italy’s news agency and Italian media, after reading Kara’s statement in the Israeli media, were quick to follow up on the article, quoting his statement in subsequent reports.

The incident occurred on the eve of the arrival of Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella to Jerusalem for an official visit.
