The White House on Friday corrected its transcript of President Barack Obama’s eulogy for Shimon Peres to remove “Israel” from the Jerusalem dateline.

The White House sent reporters a new version of the transcript Friday afternoon, “with a corrected header,” about nine hours after the original transcript was first mailed.

The original transcript noted that Obama had spoken at the funeral on "Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, Israel." In the corrected press release, the word "Israel" is crossed out.

U.S. policy since 1949 has been note to recognize Jerusalem as belonging to any nation until its status is settled through peace talks.

In his eulogy, Obama quoted Peres as saying that "the Jewish people weren't born to rule another people."

"He would say: We are against slaves and masters," Obama said.

Peres was buried on Mt. Herzl, deep on the western side of the city, land that has been held by Israel since its independence in 1948.
