Opposition leader Isaac Herzog, head of the Zionist Union faction, was lightly injured on Wednesday in a three-car collision on the coastal highway north of Tel Aviv.

Zaki Heller, spokesman for Magen David Adom, said Herzog was among three people hurt in the accident that occurred near the Rishpon intersection north of Tel Aviv.

Medics gave Herzog first aid at the scene and he required no further treatment, Heller said.

But Herzog's driver, a man of 25, was taken to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba with light injuries to his back and neck. A woman of 22, apparently the driver of another vehicle involved in the crash, was also taken to the hospital with back and chest injuries, while a third driver was unharmed, medics said.

It wasn't clear yet whether Herzog would go ahead with a holiday toast planned in Haifa for later in the afternoon.

Herzog posted about the accident on his Twitter account, in a tweet that said: "I've just been in a three-car accident on the coastal highway. I wish all those injured a speedy recovery. Drive carefully."
