Habayit Hayehudi lawmaker Yinon Magal has informed party leader Naftali Bennett that he wishes to resign from the Knesset after the emergence of sexual assault allegations against him.

Magal told Bennett that he is confident his actions were not criminal in nature, but he understands that he has hurt others by his past conduct, and he will step down.

Two women who previously worked with Magal at the news site Walla have accused him of sexual assault and harassment. Magal served as editor-in-chief of the news service at the time.

A third woman came forward on Sunday, after police started collecting evidence against Magal. It is not clear whether any of the women will press criminal charges.

Last week, Bennett stripped Magal of his post as chairman of the Hayabit Hayehudi faction in the Knesset.
