An Israeli soldier was killed and another was wounded in a stabbing attack at a West Bank gas station on Highway 443 on Monday. Another woman suffered light injuries during the attempt to stop the attacker, when an Israeli car was erroneously hit. The Palestinian attacker was shot and killed.

The soldier, Pvt. Ziv Mizrachi, 18, from Givat Ze'ev, was pronounced dead by paramedics on the scene after making intensive efforts to resuscitate him, Magen David Adom emergency ambulance service said. He had been stabbed in his upper body.

"He had no pulse and was not breathing," MDA paramedic Uri Gavriel said of the young man, which was found unconscious with stab wounds to his upper body. "We provided him medical treatment and tried at length to resuscitate him."

The second victim, also in her 20s, sustained light injuries and was transferred to Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem for treatment. She was said to be in stable condition after being stabbed in one of her limbs.

Another woman was lightly wounded during the attempt to stop the knife-wielding Palestinian.

A short while before the attack, the two soldiers who were driving together were involved in a minor accident. While they were waiting for roadside assistance, the Palestinian approached them and stabbed them. Soldiers deployed near the gas station shot and killed the assailant, from the village of Katana.

Elsewhere on Monday afternoon, a Palestinian man tried to stab a soldier at a West Bank IDF army base. Soldiers shot and killed the alleged terrorist. Israel forces suffered no casualties.

Earlier, two female Palestinian teens stabbed a man near a central outdoor market in Jerusalem with scissors. The victim was identified by the police as an elderly Palestinian man in his 70s, whom they apparently mistook for as Israeli. Another man was wounded while trying to stop the attack.

The two Palestinians identified as the assailants, aged 14 and 16, were shot by a police officer while they were trying to stab others near the Mahane Yehuda open-air market. One of them was killed and the second suffered serious wounds and was evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.

Earlier Monday, a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip exploded in an open area in southern Israel, failing to cause either damage or casualties.

The gas station was also the scene of a stabbing attack in August. In that incident, a 19-year-old Palestinian stabbed an Israeli soldier, lightly wounding him. The alleged assailant was arrested after soldiers opened fire, lightly wounding him.

The IDF said the soldier was stabbed in the back, and that he was sent to receive medical treatment. The Red Crescent told the Palestinian news agency Ma'an the assailant was wounded in his hand.
