In an interview with Aimee Amiga for, former Islamic world adviser to the Secretary of Defense office at the Pentagon Dr. Harold Rhode explains how and where the militant group was established, and how it uses extreme violence to recruit followers – in the Middle East as well as the West.

He also describes what direct threat Islamic State poses to countries outside the Middle East, and why the United States, together with its allies, must act now to eliminate it.
