Israel will launch a ground invasion in Gaza if militants there continue firing rockets into Israel, the nation's president Shimon Peres told CNN on Wednesday.

"We warned them," Peres told CNN's Becky Anderson. "We asked them to stop it."

"If they won’t stop their missiles, there will be a ground attack," he continued.

Pressed by Anderson to specify when Israel would begin such a campaign, Peres said that "it may happen quite soon." "I am not going to tell you when and where," he added, "but that’s the logical conclusion."

Peres also discussed his hopes for peace between Israel and the Palestinians, as well as the ongoing international negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear program.
