Israel's 'roof knocking' captured on video.

Israel's practice of 'roof knocking' before leveling buildings in Gaza is being documented by local residents, with examples being uploaded to YouTube.

The practice involves the Israel Air Force firing a small mortar shell onto the roof of a building it has designated for destruction. Residents then have a few minutes at best to clear out or face being caught in the rubble.

Before firing the shell, the Israeli army calls up the residents of the targeted building by phone to warn them of the imminent attack. Israel also used the tactic in previous operations, including Operation Cast Lead in December 2008 and January 2009 as well as Operation Pillar of Defense in 2012.
