An explosion in the southern Gaza Strip killed three Palestinians and wounded five others Wednesday, health officials said.

One of the wounded was in critical condition, said Ashraf al-Qedra, a spokesman for Gaza's Health Ministry.

The explosion occurred at a training ground of Palestinian armed groups south-east of Khan Younis, near the border with Israel.

The blast appeared to have been caused by an accident.

The Israeli military said it carried out no airstrike in the Gaza Strip.

"It has nothing to do with us. It's something internal," a spokeswoman in Tel Aviv told dpa.
