A woman cranes her neck to marvel at the unending skyline as she gently rocks her sleeping child in a buggy. “It’s like I’m in America,” she proclaims.

The fake blue skies painted above the indoor food court, the towering clockfaces and wandering entertainers are intended to recall Las Vegas. Meanwhile, just 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) away, a new indoor theme park boasting a dozen rides and roller coasters is more in the vein of Orlando – even if this silver, cylindrical building in the midst of a half-developed wasteland looks more like an alien spacecraft above Utah.
