To begin with, this interview requires a full disclosure. In 2008, my phone rang from an unknown number. On the other end was the voice of a young woman with a distinctly Arab accent. “Listen,” she said, “I read what you write and we have to meet. I have a subject that will interest you.” As a busy, overloaded journalist, I wasn’t eager to devote any of my precious time to someone I didn’t know anything about, but in the end I agreed to give her an hour, “provided you come to Tel Aviv, because I have no intention of coming to Nazareth.”
