Just imagine if the Israel Police Northern District commander had carried out a professional assessment, with structural engineers and safety experts, of the number of people that the compound around the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar-Yochai at Mount Meron can contain without exposing those arriving for the Lag Ba’omer pilgrimage to danger from trampling. The only realistic conclusion would have been that the place is too small for the hundreds of thousands who arrive at the annual hillula and that the current situation is a grave danger.
