Israel Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai took the necessary decision Sunday evening and removed the barricades from the plaza in front of the Damascus Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City. The barriers have been the main source of incitement of the recent violence in Jerusalem. The Jerusalem district police had decided to place them at the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which began about two weeks ago, initially with the stated reason that they were to prevent crowding that could spread the coronavirus and later over concern regarding overcrowding.
