Tensions in Jerusalem could escalate quickly, but Israel is focusing on the Strip and has trouble seeing the bigger picture

After the cease-fire came the explanations. The prime minister, defense minister, army chief of staff and Shin Bet security service chief called a press conference on Friday, in which they made statements and did not take questions. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “Not everything is known to the public, nor to Hamas, which took blows it never dreamed of.” He also declared a new equation that, truth be told, he already presented in the past but had not implemented. From now on, he said, Israel will respond forcefully to every instance of fire and will not tolerate a trickle of rockets.
