Prominent ultra-Orthodox Rabbi Meir Mazuz lashed out against several factions of Judaism this weekend, saying Jews from the former Soviet Union and Reform Jews are non–believers who are destroying Judaism in Israel.

His remarks, delivered during the course of a live-streamed Torah lecture on Saturday evening, came amidst a barrage of criticisms levied by senior leaders of the ultra-Orthodox community against the government’s efforts to enact reforms which they see as harming their way of life. These include efforts to permit non-Orthodox prayer at the Western Wall and end the Chief Rabbinate’s monopoly on kosher certification as well as cuts to childcare benefits and high taxes on disposable cutlery.
