Joshua Cohen surprised me twice. The first time was when we met, at his request, one evening at the end of January 2020, in Jerusalem. He wanted to tell me of a discovery he had made in the papers of his late friend, Professor Harold Bloom, the great man of American writing, of a correspondence between Bloom and Benzion Netanyahu. He wasn’t sure what to make of it and neither was I.
