A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday, after his 66-year-old mother was found dead in her Ashdod home.

Police said they suspect the man was drunk at the time of the alleged attack because he reeked of alcohol when they arrested him.

Ashkelon Magistrate’s Court ordered that the man be detained without bail for five days, and issued a gag order barring public disclosure of his name.

At about 3:30 A.M. Sunday morning, the son called the police’s emergency hotline and said his mother was “going crazy,” according to a police statement. Police went to her home in the Givat Yona neighborhood and found her lying on the floor with serious wounds on her body.

The police summoned an ambulance crew, which tried to resuscitate the woman but eventually had to declare her dead at the scene.

Police searched the apartment for evidence and arrested the son on suspicion of murder. The accused denies the allegation.
