Israeli forces on Tuesday shot dead a Palestinian man, who the military says attempted a car-ramming attack near a settlement in the Nablus area.

According to the Israeli military, the man tried to carry out an attack at a military checkpoint near Einav, and was "neutralized" by forces at the scene.

District firefighters found the driver's body inside the car, which had caught on fire along with an army vehicle.

No soldiers were injured, a military statement said. There were no reports of other casualties in the incident.

This comes amid a resurgence of violent attacks by Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

Two weeks ago, an Israeli security guard was moderately injured in a car-ramming attack at a checkpoint near the Palestinian town of Tul Karm. The driver, a 16-year-old, was shot by other security guards at the scene, and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Following the attack, Defense Minister Benny Gantz ordered increased alertness at checkpoints.

Reuters contributed to this report.
