Nine Israelis Stranded in Bolivia Due to Heavy Rainfall

According to Israel's foreign ministry, the group stranded on banks of Rio Verde is safe and awaiting rescue.

Heavy rainfall in Bolivia has left nine Israelis stuck on the banks of the country's Rio Verde river, the foreign ministry said Saturday.

The rains in recent days caused the current in the river to gain strength, damaging the group's raft and equipment, said the ministry's deputy spokesman, Alon Lavi.

The spokesman said that the group had been located and that they were safe. He said the ministry was in contact with them via a satellite phone. There was a gradual improvement in the state of the river after the rains ended, the ministry said.

A rescue team was on its way to the Israelis, Lavi said, and the ministry hopes they will be rescued in the coming hours.
