Nine boys ages 15 and 16 are suspected of raping and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl they met through online social networks. The nine suspects, residents of central Israel, were arrested in late November and held in detention for over two weeks.
They were recently released to house arrest. A gag order on the case was in place until Tuesday.
A source familiar with the case said the sexual attacks lasted for several months, including rape, sodomy and other offenses, sometimes involving one boy and sometimes in groups. The complainant was introduced to the other boys after meeting the first one online.
The source said the girl went to the police after consulting with a friend and relatives, and provided detailed testimony. The District Attorney’s Office is handling the case and reportedly will decide soon whether or not to file charges against the boys.
