Anne-Marie O’Connor, an American writer currently based in Jerusalem, is the author of the award-winning book The Lady in Gold: the Extraordinary Tale of Gustav Klimt's Masterpiece, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer.
Klimt’s painting became known as Austria’s Mona Lisa and was eventually stolen by the Nazis. It was a long-hidden, inconvenient truth that the woman Klimt’s portrait that would come to be a landmark painting on the timeline of European modernism was, in fact, Jewish. The book was part of the inspiration of the new film Woman in Gold starring Helen Mirren; O’Connor is collaborating on another film on the subject.
