The hospital said the deployment was part of a new protocol formulated after a brawl last week outside a hospital in Be'er Sheva resulted in several injuries.

Ibrahim Balqes was brought to Rambam on Wednesday evening in serious condition. A man who was lightly injured in the same incident was also admitted to the hospital.

Rambam said it was the second time this week in which police forces were deployed for fear of a violent incident developing. On Sunday, a large contingent of police was sent to Western Galilee Hospital in Nahariya after dozens of people tried to enter.

Nineteen people were arrested in the brawl outside Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva last week, in what the mayor said was evidence that "the State of Israel has lost control."

On Monday, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett spoke about the brawl in Be'er Sheva at the start of a meeting of the ministerial team fighting crime and violence in Arab society and defended the government’s efforts to combat violence in the community.

“We are dealing in an orderly way with a problem that we have long learned to tolerate as unsolvable, chronic –  a problem that has long been repressed. Now, our job isn’t to take our foot off the gas pedal but to step on it harder than ever," he said.
