Border Police officers fatally shot a Palestinian suspected of carrying out a car-ramming attack outside Jerusalem on Wednesday, according to a Border Police statement.

The Palestinian man, Nour Shakir of Silwan in East Jerusalem, was evacuated to the hospital with a gunshot wound in the stomach. He was later pronounced dead.

An Israeli police officer was evacuated to a Jerusalem hospital with minor injuries after being hit by the suspect's car.  

The incident took place at the Al-Zaim checkpoint in the West Bank, east of Jerusalem.

According to the police statement, the man was suspected of presenting identification papers not belonging to him at the checkpoint. During a security check, the suspect drove away, hitting the police officer. Officers manning the checkpoint then shot at his car and "neutralized" the suspect, according to the statement by the Border Police.
