A Palestinian man attempted to stab an Israeli police officer at the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron on Wednesday.

Israel Police said in a statement that a suspicious man arrived at the security check station where Israel border police were on duty.

The man pulled out a knife and tried to stab the soldiers, who fired a number of bullets aimed at the suspect’s legs. Israeli forces were not injured in the attempted attack.

The man, a 22 year old from Hebron, was taken to Soroka Hospital in Beersheva, and is reportedly in moderate condition.

An investigation will be opened, where the events will be reviewed by the security sources, Israel Police said.
