Israeli security forces have arrested a Palestinian truck driver on suspicion that he ran over and killed a settler near the West Bank city of Hebron last October.
- Death of Israeli near Hebron ruled an accident, not terror
- Defense Min.: Israeli run over by Palestinian truck is victim of hostile act
It is not yet clear whether the death of Avraham Hasno, at the Al-Fawwar intersection near Hebron, was intentional.
On Tuesday night, officers from the Shin Bet security service and Duvdevan special forces arrested a Palestinian who had been held by the Palestinian security forces and released a few days earlier. The Shin Bet is questioning him.
The day after the incident, a defense source said Hasno’s death appeared to have been an accident. The driver fled and later turned himself in to the Palestinian police, saying he had not meant to hit Hasno. Palestinian forces kept him in custody rather than turn him over to the Israelis, and recently let him go.
Hasno, 54, a resident of Kiryat Arba near Hebron, died on October 20 on Route 60 near the Al-Fawwar refugee camp. He had been driving north when rocks and a burning tire were thrown at his car. He got out of the vehicle carrying a stick and was run over by a truck driver heading south.
