According to initial reports, the girl attempted to carry out an attack at the az-Za'ayyem checkpoint but was stopped by security forces at the scene who shot her.

No injuries to Israeli security forces were reported.

A statement by police said the Palestinian woman tried to stab one of the security personnel at the scene but was halted.

According to Palestinian reports, the Palestinian shot by Israeli security forces is the 16-year-old Samah Mubarak.

Mubarak hails originally from the Gaza Strip but her family resides in Al-Ram, a Palestinian town northeast of Jerusalem. Members of her family said she left Gaza about five years ago and led a religiously observant life.

According to relatives, she returned from Saudi Arabia ten days earlier after making a religious pilgrimage to Mecca.

Last week, an Israeli soldier fatally shot a Palestinian man who tried to stab a fellow soldier in the West Bank, the military said.
