Heavy snow fell overnight and early on Monday in the Hermon and northern Golan Heights regions, with some 35 centimeters measured at the mountain's lower levels. The snow fall is expected to last until Wednesday.
The Hermon ski site was shut to all visitors and roads have been blocked in the northern Golan area, including the Waset junction outside Odem, at the Mapal, Sa’ar and Bar On junctions.
The Golan regional council urges everyone to avoid using any blocked roads, but schools are open as normal.
Forecasters say Sunday’s winds were as strong as 90 kilometers per hour, particularly in the northern and central regions. In the northern Golan Heights, some 20 millimeters of rain fell through the afternoon with about 25 millimeters falling in Maalot-Tarshiha and 14 millimeters in Acre.
Tuesday is likely to be rainy and stormy in the north with flood warnings in effect. In the Hermon there will be heavy snowfall and in the center of the country strong winds are expected as well as dust storms and local rains.
In the afternoon, rain is expected to spread to the central regions. In the south it will be humid and colder than usual from the evening onward.
On Wednesday morning, rain is expected in the northern and central regions with snow expected to fall in the Hermon. The rains will die out during the day and stop completely in the afternoon. On Thursday the weather will be partly cloudy to clear with temperatures rising to an average level for the season.
