The four dead were found trapped under a concrete beam that hit the bus and fire-fighters managed to free them only when it was too late. The wounded were evacuated to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer and Assaf Harofeh Hospital in Tzrifin.

Two women, one sixty-year-old and one around 18, are reported to be in critical condition, while the other nine are said to be moderately wounded.

Police closed off the area of the accident at Bedek Junction and are asking drivers to use alternatives routes. Pictures of the scene suggest those involved were travelling on a bus belonging to Israel's public transportation company Egged.

Medics from Magen David Adom rescue services (MDA) said upon their arrival that a number of passengers were stuck inside the bus, including the driver who was still conscious.
