A Palestinian attacked an Israeli soldier with an ax on Thursday afternoon at a Israel Defense Force post in the West Bank. The incident occured near the Al-Aroub refugee camp in the southern West Bank south of Bethlehem.

The Palestinian was reportedly shot to death, but there were no injuries on the Israeli side.

Earlier on Thursday, two Palestinians, both about 12 years old, were detained for questioning in the Old City of Jerusalem after they aroused the suspicion of police and border police.

The suspects were searched and three knives were found hidden in the coat of one of the young people along with a farewell letter to his parents, a police spokesman said.
