A 19-year-old resident of Umm al-Fahm was shot dead early Tuesday in the third killing in the predominantly Arab city since Friday and as years-long criticism of the police's alleged neglect of the Arab community heightens.

The police are investigating Tuesday's killing of Mustafa Baderan, and a hunt is underway for the gunman.

On Monday night in Umm al-Fahm, 40-year-old Mohammed Tawfik Haboub was shot while walking down the street. He was taken to Emek Medical Center in Afula in critical condition and was later pronounced dead. The police are still searching for the suspects.

On Friday, Tarek Agbaria, a 42-year-old physician, was shot from close range while in his car with his wife and children. They were returning home from the hospital after his wife gave birth, and Agbaria died later in the hospital.

Agbaria, who managed a nursing home in the city, is the fifth person in his family to be killed in the past two years. The police have launched an investigation.

The recent killings add on to tensions between Umm al-Fahm residents and the police, whom local people have long criticized for allegedly neglecting crime in Arab society.

The municipality declared a general strike and a day of mourning after a 17-year-old was shot by the police in the Jewish-Arab mob violence during the fighting in Gaza this month. The police are investigating.
