IDF Elite Unit Officer Collapses and Dies at Tel Nof Air Base

Officer from Israel Defense Forces' elite Maglan passed suddenly at the age of 22 after collapsing, death possibly caused by previous medical problem.

A 22-year-old officer from the Israel Defense Forces' elite Maglan unit collapsed and died yesterday at the Tel Nof military base, the army said. The officer was not engaged in strenuous physical activity at the time, and it appears the death was caused by a previously unknown medical issue.

The army was still investigating his death last night.

The captain, a resident of Kfar Sava, was getting out of a car after arriving for a meeting with soldiers when he complained of a severe headache and immediately collapsed. A medical team tried to resuscitate him, but to no avail, and he was taken to Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Sources in the IDF said that the officer had not been training at the time and was not known to have suffered from any specific medical problem. The IDF's Medical Corps were investigating the incident, the sources said.
