Insightec: Creating the Future of Neurosurgery
Insightec is a global MedTech company founded by Israeli entrepreneurs whose revolutionary technology has already changed the lives of thousands of people who suffer from tremors. The company is growing rapidly in order to keep up with demand for its treatment systems and the potential additional applications of its technology
Insightec’s teams of entrepreneurs and technology pioneers have developed a groundbreaking, non-invasive system for brain surgery that provides relief for patients suffering from Essential Tremor and Parkinson’s Disease. By harnessing acoustic energy, brain surgeons can treat tremors with the therapeutic power of focused ultrasound in just one out-patient procedure – by focusing sound waves in the patient’s brain, safely guided by MRI.
Millions around the world suffer from trembling disorders that disrupt people’s lives, limiting their ability to carry out simple daily tasks such as eating, drinking or writing by themselves. According to Insightec, patients who have undergone the single treatment needed with the Insightec system report dramatic, life-changing results and most are able to resume independent lives after years of needing help with every-day chores.
The technology was approved by the FDA in 2016, and since then thousands of patients have been treated. Over 100 Insightec systems, which are all manufactured in Israel, are currently being used in hospitals around the world. Insightec is the only company in the world that can offer this treatment technology. Insightec’s R&D division is already busy researching future applications in partnership with leading academic and medical institutions.
Insightec was founded in 1999 and today, the company has close to 500 employees in its headquarters in Haifa, Israel and Miami, Florida, as well as in its offices in Dallas, Tokyo, Shanghai and locations across Europe. Israel is the largest team globally with more than 260 employees.
In addition to the experienced professionals at Insightec, many in the team join as young engineers or students and grow with the company through internal mobility.
Insightec have values that define their culture and are critical to the successful growth. These values are grounded on a firm commitment to bettering patient outcomes, ensuring integrity is rooted in every decision and working as a team with a focus on quality and innovation for the good of their patients.
Meet Eyal Zadicario
Eyal Zadicario, who lives with his wife and three children in Tel Aviv, has spent most of his career at Insightec. He joined as a software engineer and worked his way to a global executive position and managing over half of the employees in the company. He works at the company’s headquarters in Haifa.
“I joined the company because I was looking for a technological challenge that included multidisciplinary approaches. The best part is that I feel a strong sense of purpose – we are changing people’s lives. I have a strong connection to my work because I’m helping to provide solutions for people’s medical conditions.
The work environment at Insightec is very supportive, which is why many people – including myself – have worked here for more than 15 years. In fact, I got my PhD in Computer Science while working here. The average age is higher than most start-ups and we are proud of the fact that around half of our employees are women.
During the pandemic, we leveraged our innovative culture and found creative ways to train doctors and to monitor the treatments remotely. We continued to drive our development goals and were able to deliver on all of our commitments despite the challenges.
Our employees continued to volunteer and support the communities we work in which is embedded deeply in our company culture together with our focus on our patients.
Every day, I come to work and see with my own eyes how I can help change people’s lives, and I never tire of the satisfaction that this gives me.”
