Forgery Threatens Fine for Too Heavy School Bags

Forgeries of an official letter warning schools of fines if their students are made to carry heavy bags prompted the National Council for the Child to file a complaint with the police for alleged forgery of its signature and stationery.

The letter was sent to a school in the Jerusalem area, warning that NCC inspectors would be weighing bags and imposing fines on schools where children's school bags weigh more than 15 percent the pupil's weight.

The forgery mailed one day after the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth published an article informing readers that the Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry has begun looking into setting a maximum weight for school bags. The ministry initiated its review after parents complained that their children were made to carry bags that were too heavy for them, resulting in back aches and fatigue.
