Egypt's prime minister has revoked the citizenship of an Egyptian man who became an Israeli citizen, the Egyptian news agency MENA reports.

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb made the decision after the man, who was not named, became a naturalized Israeli citizen without first obtaining the Egyptian Interior Ministry's permission, as the law requires of Egyptians seeking dual citizenship from any foreign country.

It was not disclosed if the man in question is Jewish; fewer than 50 Jews remain in Egypt.
