After assessing the current climate, the State decided to allow men over 45 and women of all ages to enter the Temple Mount for Juma'a prayers on Friday.

Police forced were deployed early Friday morning around the Old City, specifically in the alleys leading towards the Western Wall and the Temple Mount, in order to maintain security and order. Police will act accordingly with any tensions that may arise.

Metal detectors were strategiclly placed in the Old City yesterday to prevent potential attackers from smuggling in knives.

The locations include Jaffa Gate and Damascus Gate; al-Wad/Hagay Street, which cuts through the Muslim Quarter between the Western Wall plaza and Damascus Gate; the Via Dolorosa and Chain Gate Street.

The police did not specify whether every person seeking to enter the Old City or passing through these streets, or only suspicious-looking people will be required to pass through the metal detectors. Tens of thousands of people enter the Old City every day.
