Two people were arrested this week on suspicion of being involved in the death of Bahia Mana’a, 22, of Be’er Sheva, whose body was found near the Nitzanim junction last weekend.

The initial assumption was that Mana’a was killed in a hit-and-run accident, but at the beginning of the week various findings that came into the hands of the police raised a possibility that her death was caused in some other way. One of the suspects was arrested on Monday, and the Ashdod Magistrate’s Court extended his remand by a week. On Tuesday another suspect was arrested, and was to be brought for an extension of his remand Wednesday afternoon.

One of the detainees knew the young woman well. The police say that the circumstances of the death are still unclear and all avenues of investigation are being examined.

At about 3 A.M. on Saturday there was a report of a young woman who was found lifeless on the side of Route 4, near the Nitzanim junction. Magen David Adom emergency crews declared her dead on the spot.

The police noted that no vehicle was seen hitting the woman, and due to the injuries found on her body, which are not unequivocal, she was sent for an autopsy in the Abu Kabir Institute of Forensic Medicine in Tel Aviv to determine the circumstances of her death. The Lachish District police formed a special investigative committee to examine the circumstances of the incident, and the investigation is expected to continue in the coming days.

On Monday the police arrested a couple from a Bedouin village in the Negev on suspicion of involvement in the murder of their daughter about a month ago. The body of 22-year-old Tasneem Abu Kwider, a resident of Abu Kwider, married and the mother of two, was found in her home about a month ago.

The police opened an investigation into the circumstances of her death and her body was sent to Abu Kabir. During the investigation a suspicion arose that it was a case of murder. The Be’er Sheva Magistrate’s Court extended the mother’s remand until Thursday, and that of the father until Sunday.
